Been a long time posting

Yeah, I know… It has been an abnormally long time since posting. The problem is that law school is rather time intensive and unfortunately by the time I get done with my day I need to decompress and want nothing more than sleep. A lot of that comes from the fact that I start my day 6:30AM. Yeah, I have an 8AM class and I do not have the comfort of Camille driving me half way. That is becoming more painfully aware as MI tumbles towards winter. It has already started getting abysmally cold.

No, this post is not about the weather! You came for some real information… So what are some highlights of the last few weeks?

I finished my first semester of Law School, even though it was an abridged semester. At first I was completely skeptical of this whole summer starter thing. However, as I started the fall semester I noticed that I was considerably more acclimated. I really don’t know how fall starters do it, getting thrown in with three full classes and legal practice… Me?Batman Arkham Asylum (Cover) I am just glad I got to wade in the shallow end first, before I jumped in headlong. The reading has gotten increased with another class thrown in the mix. However, the fact that this semester is not a shortened one helps not overwhelm me. It also helps that my week off between jumping from summer to fall was steeped in an amazing game.

Batman: Arkham Asylum came out in the week I had off and I bought it the day it came out and played it almost non-stop until the semester started. I finished the game flat in two days and though it was an awesome experience, I wanted more. Camille chided me for finishing it so soon, but I had an amazing time so I did not care. The entire game struck the perfect comicbook-Batman-chord and the voice actors just brought back to me all that was good of Batman: The Animated Series. I went back to my Paul Dini fix for a few days and it just complemented by game playing so well… Yeah I was on a Batman high for a week and it was sublime.

What else can I say about these days? Camille is busy on her master’s program and she is enjoying the death of a social life that comes along with it. On the other hand, I have been having a hard time trying to figure out whether or not I should get Halo: ODST.Halo (ODST) (Cover) The good thing is that the short playing time will actually mean that I will finish the game. The bad thing? I am not sure if I really want to pay $60 for a game that includes mappacks I have already bought. I think that we can all agree that an avid Halo fan is getting a pretty bad deal for four hours of multiplayer. So then as I write this blog I make up my mind… I am going to hold off until the price comes down suitably on this expansion pack. See how cathartic this blog can be Rajeev? You should write more!

On the other hand, since I started writing this post, I have purchased Mirror’s Edge. I have a small rant here, that might concern my gaming demographic. Single player games these days cost too much money. If you make a game that is literally eight hours, I will not buy a game of that length for $60.Mirror's Edge (Cover) I understand that you have put some challenges in there for replay value. The thing is that as soon as I finish the single player it will go on my shelf and that is it. The game is done. I can’t justify throwing $60 in that direction. So what is the good price? I paid $20 for Mirror’s Edge and I think that is a perfectly suitable price. The day after I got the game I was half-way done with it. I will probably be done with it by the end of this week. The reason for this long is only because I play like thirty minutes a day (maybe less). As I move on with my life, I really cannot justify paying $60 for an eight hour game…. Halo: ODST at four hours? That will need to come down in price a whole lot more.

Superman:Batman Public Enemies.jpgIn more Batman news, I got around to seeing Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and was just blown away by how well it was done. Lately DC Animated has been stepping up their game and each successive movie that comes out is just better and better. Thankfully they replaced their “guest” Batman voice-actors with my favorite, Kevin Conroy in the new feature. The other thing that I find absolutely neat is that as they take inspiration from the comic books, they not only grab the story, but they also use the art. Comic books have always been a medium of collaboration, made up heavily of the story and dialogue and just as heavily by the art. The fact that WB Animation has taken the care to bring both elements to life just boggles the mind. The works seem a lot more like a labor of love and it makes me want to support it even more. Anyway, the dialogue is snappy, the story is streamlined and Luthor is a great villain. Plus you get to see Power Girl’s big…!

Kevin Smith came to Ann Arbor a few weeks ago. I realized that he was coming thanks to a flyer in the “Vault of Midnight.” By the time I got around to get tickets the entire area was almost filled up. Still, Camille and I got tickets and Kevin and Natela joined us. The evening was a riot.Kevin Smith in Ann Arbor He came in and talked about Joe Louis Arena. Apparently he is making a hockey movie in Michigan next year. Then it quickly transitioned into the Q&A section. The questions were of all kinds. However, the highlight of the evening was when Kevin Smith signed some guy’s ass. The guy wanted an autograph on his hand so he could tattoo it. Kevin Smith suggested his ass because the guy might meet some girl who hated Kevin Smith. The guy agreed and there was quickly a signature of the ass. What I was most surprised by was that Smith’s talk was part of a series conducted by NPR. I respect NPR, I respect Smith, I am not sure those two should mix. The man talked for almost three hours though and managed to stay funny through most of it… That was definitely worth my money. In a few weeks I go to see Robin Williams do stand-up. It is going to be shorter, but I expect to laugh more (and also pay more for my ticket).

So that is it for now… I have given you updates on a number of things that have come up in the last few weeks. I have a few writing projects on my list and I have to make sure that I do not get derailed by law school. Though I have to be honest, law school is consuming the entirety of my life and relationships right now. Thankfully, with Camille in school as well, she too is occupied with school work through most of the day. I hope you all are enjoying the changing weather and the shortening days. To all those back to school, I once again share your burden of homework. To all those still at work, I envy your free evenings. Take care of yourselves and have a good one.
